Wellspring Wisconsin is not a “fat camp” based on a fad diet. Wellspring is a proven, remarkably effective fitness and weight loss program based on decades of scientific research on what actually works for dramatic weight loss and long-term weight control. Unlike traditional weight loss camps or fat camps, Wellspring has proven its effectiveness year-after-year. The initial weight loss success (average 4lbs of weight loss per week) and long-term results (weight loss continues after camp, on average) of Wellspring campers have been presented at scientific conferences, published in journals and covered by media organizations around the world.
Every facet of the Wellspring Plan—diet, activity, behavioral therapy, family involvement, and continued after care—are based on decades of experience and research on what works for initial and maintained weight loss.

Low-Fat, Low-Density Diet: campers enjoy a low-fat, low-density diet that is nutritious and delicious. This diet is not your typical teen diet, but rather satisfies hunger and is designed to counteract the biological and environmental factors that contribute to weight gain. Campers learn how to cook the same foods they eat at camp, shop for these foods in grocery stores, and order these foods in restaurants.
Activity Management: campers achieve at least 10,000 steps each day through a range of exciting activities—walking, hiking, biking, fitness training, and canoeing, to name a few. Many of our campers exceed 20,000 or more steps per day. The exciting fitness activities at Wellspring motivate campers to continue this progress at home.

Lifestyle Change: Trained Master’s and Doctoral-level therapists called Behavioral Coaches work with each camper to help them make permanent lifestyle changes. This is done through training campers in cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques to help them self-regulate their eating behaviors and attitudes. This training includes:
Family Involvement: Family Workshops allow time for families to speak with Behavioral Coaches on the best strategies for supporting their camper once he/she goes home.
Continuing Care: Campers participate in a ONE YEAR Continuing Care program, that provides contact with a Behavioral Coach, self-monitoring, and communicating with fellow campers all online.
No other weight loss program is as comprehensive and integrated as Wellspring. This is why Wellspring’s results are among the best fitness and weight loss results ever reported. And these initial and long-term results have occurred year after year.
